To diagnos the
modem:
Go to Control Panel, Modem and click on Diagnostic.
Highlight the COM port the modem is connected to, then click on More
Info and wait for the response.
If you have an external modem, look at the modem lights; make sure they
flash back & forth.
If the modem fails to respond, the modem needs to be repaired or the modem
driver may need to be re-installed.
If the modem respond successfully. The modem is installed correctly. If
the modem passes the diagnostic test but still fails to connect, then
the modem driver may not be selected properly under dialup networking.
Go to Dialup Networking, click on the Net2000 connection
icon with the right mouse button the select Properties.
Make sure the correct modem selected for the connection. Please
note that some modem still passes the this diagnostic test eventhough
the wrong driver is installed. Although, most modems works ok with Standard
drivers, it is advisable to use the actual driver supplied by the
manufacturer.
Please note, these
instructions are for Win9x & WinMe, however it can be easily extended
to other operation systems.
