4. Modem dials but won't connect.

Check the obvious things

 
  • Make sure you dialling the correct dial in number. Check the Area Code & Country Code, take these off if necessay. There's no need to dial the area code or the country code. Check the dialup number itself.
  • Make sure the correct modem driver is selected under Dialup Networking
  • Check your login details. Make you are using the right username and password
 
  • Try adding a few commas(,) after the dial in phone number to delay the connection time.
  • The modem may need to be reconfigured. You can try adding different initialisation strings to the modem advance settings. The initialization strings for different modem can be found at 56k.com web site.
  • Reinstall the modem driver.
  • Update the firmware of the modem. Check 56k.com web site for details.
