(b) I can't browse
the web or check my email
The best thing to
do in such a case is to test your modem link by pinging the server.
Goto the DOS Prompt and type ping 203.26.98.3 and press
Enter (c:\windows>ping 203.26.98.3 <enter>)
Pinging is analogous to a sona for a submarine. When you ping a server
you are sending packets of information to the server and wait for the
replies.
- If the server responds,
it means there's communication between your modem and the server, the
link is up. The problem could then lie on either end. The server
may have a problem or your computer may have some blocking mechanism
such as a firewall or an antivirus program that has auto protect enabled.
- If the ping test
results in "Network Unreachable", the modem link is
down. It usually means that the modem may be installed properly or is
not functioning properly. You may need to reconfigure the modem. On
occasions it is just a matter of just restart the computer and reconnecting
to fix the problem. If this doesn't work. You may need to reinstall
the connection. The network components may not be installed properly.
Such case would be when you have two identical TCP/IP protocol for the
dialup adapter.

(d)
I can browse the web but can't check my email.
Your email program
is not configured, configured incorrectly or your settings has been modified
(by someone or some program such as an antivirus program).
- Reconfigure the
email program make sure the incoming mail and outgoing mail servers
are set to mail.net2000.com.au
- Some antivirus
changes the incoming mail servers to 127.0.0.1 or localhost
or pop3.norton.antivirus. The Account Name is changed
username#mail.net2000.com.au Make sure these are changed back
to the correct settingsmail.net2000.com.au and the Account
Name is changed to just username only.
- Make sure your
email address is correct and there's no spelling errors. Having
an incorrect email address will result in problem setting emails. The
server does not recognize that email address and consequently the server
does will respond with an error and the emails are not sent.
