How we protect your files, even from us

Here’s what happens to a file, from upload to automatic deletion.

How we protect your files, even from us Animated diagram. You upload a file over HTTPS. A unique password is made for the share and a key is made from it with Argon2id. The file is locked with XChaCha20-Poly1305 as it arrives, and only scrambled data reaches the server vault. The password is emailed to the recipient separately and the key is erased, so the vault is labelled No key here and anyone looking in sees only gibberish. The recipient enters the password, the key is rebuilt and the file unlocks and downloads. When the link expires, the scrambled files are deleted. 1. UploadYou upload a file over HTTPS.
  2. Password and keyA unique password is created for this share, and a key is made from it (Argon2id).
  3. Locked as it arrivesThe file is locked (encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305) as it arrives, piece by piece. Only locked, scrambled data is saved on the server.
  4. Password sent, then erasedThe password is emailed to the recipient separately, then erased from our server. We never keep it.
  5. A vault with no keyOn the server: a vault of scrambled files, and no key. A NET2000 staff member or an intruder sees only gibberish.
  6. Unlocked on downloadThe recipient enters the password, the key is rebuilt, and the file unlocks in that moment and downloads.
  7. Deleted on expiryFiles are deleted automatically when the link expires.

Not even NET2000 can open your files without the password.

Built to protect your documents

  • Its own password for every share

Every share is locked with its own password. We never keep it, so the stored files can’t be opened without it.

  • Link and password in separate emails

The password is emailed to you automatically in a separate email from the link, so one intercepted message isn’t enough. A link can also ask for a one-time code we email you.

  • Links that expire

Every link expires within 90 days at most, and the encrypted files are then deleted automatically. Net2000 doesn’t keep long-term copies, so please keep your own.

  • Lockout after repeated wrong guesses

After 5 incorrect passwords the link locks for 15 minutes, which stops automated guessing.

  • Hosted in Australia by Net2000

Files are kept on Net2000’s own server in Australia, run by a local team you can call.

  • Send files to us securely too

We can send you a private upload link. You can only upload through it, never see anyone else’s files, and what you send is encrypted as it arrives. You’ll get a receipt when we’ve collected your documents.

No system is unbreakable, but we’ve taken every reasonable step to keep your documents safe. Please keep the share password private and don’t forward it with the link.
